Slant Six Creative is less than the sum of its parts.

SSC is the brainchild of Neal Shaffer, a writer from Baltimore, Maryland. That’s me.

I started out as a Baltimore Sun intern and freelance music and culture journalist. Along the way, a chance meeting with illustrator Daniel Krall led to a successful career in independent comics.

Shortly thereafter I also took a stake in my family business, handling all aspects of marketing and communications for a company with over $500k in annual revenues.

Through it all I continued working on a variety of independent projects. I built and continue to manage a thriving local sports website, I’ve worked in PR and journalism, and I’ve begun the process of writing a cookbook.

It’s a pretty wide swath of experience, all of which helps form the foundation of Slant Six. It’s a foundation built first and foremost on relationships. With illustrators, designers, web folks, other writers, marketers, photographers, etc. These relationships form the extended base from which Slant Six draws its resources.

You will almost never find this much talent and experience under one roof, but we’ve got access to it.
