Three years or so ago I saw a need.

I’m a sports fan, and specifically an Orioles fan. If you know anything at all about the Orioles (who have been losing more games than they win for 10+ years) then you know that’s a tough thing to be. Nevertheless, I wanted a place to write about and discuss the team that was different from most of what I saw. I wanted a place where the conversation would take place at a high level and be mostly free from the yelling and name calling that is too often the norm with sports blogs.

Like every ground-up, DIY project, it required both time and a dedicated grassroots branding/marketing effort. I put in both and as a result The Loss Column is now established as one of the region’s best sports blogs. We have a vibrant discussion community with several highly active members and a few hundred daily unique visitors. The site has been recognized and/or linked by Yahoo Sports, Deadspin, the Baltimore Sun, the Washington Post, Uni Watch, and several other sites. I’ve been invited to contribute to the Washington Post and Orioles Magazine, to speak at Orioles FanFest, to appear on Fox Sports Radio 1370 AM, and to contribute my opinions and insights to a host of smaller websites.

And by the way: the site ranks #1 in Google search for “Baltimore Sports Blog.”
